Frequently Asked Questions About The AP Chem Exam And Class

Hey peeps!
Another day another post coming at ya!
Today I'm going to talk about some of the common questions people have about the AP exam and the AP Chem class so let's get started!
  1. How much homework do you get on average in the class?
    • I think it depends a lot on your teacher, but since it's an AP class on average it will be more than your regular classes. My teacher gave us about an hour of homework a night, but we had time to work on it in class whereas a different teacher at my school gave 30 minutes of homework per night, but they couldn't work on it in class at all. Talk to the people at your school and figure out which teacher is best.
  2. How hard is the actual class?
    • I'd say that the class honestly isn't as hard as many people make it to be. A lot of the material is partially covered in the regular Chemistry course and you just have to learn some more advanced material on the same topics, but it's fairly easy since you already know the basics. The only new thing you learn should be Kinetics which is one of the hardest chapters, but overall the class isn't too hard.
  3.  Are the labs hard?
    • Most of the labs required by CollegeBoard are pretty easy since the directions are written out for you and it's just a step by step process of do this and then do that, but a couple of the labs actually require you to think about the chemistry and figure things out on your own so those were the ones that the class had some problems with. Someone in your class should be able to figure it out though and then tell the whole class how to do it.
  4.  How hard is it to get a 5 on the exam?
    • On the practice exams everyone in my class did fairly well, and most people seemed pretty comfortable with the actual exam, but I won't know the answer to this question until I get my test scores back in July so I'll get back to you guys on that!
